Bench Table Saw - 4 Points To Consider While Choosing One

The saw has been used to work wood for a very long time. The saw has evolved over time going from the crude cutting element to the sophisticated electric saw that can cut complex shapes. Now-a-days you can get a variety of saws depending on what you wish to accomplish. A bench saw is one such type that is used when accurate lengthwise cuts on long boards need to be made. The bench saw is popular because it can cut fast and accurately.

The bench saw is also called the table saw. It is a circular saw that is mounted on a worktable. The saw is electrically driven by a motor. The blade can be adjusted to make cuts at different angles and depths.

The biggest advantage of the table saw is that it is sturdy and lightweight. Here are a few things to keep in mind when you are choosing a bench saw.

1. The size of the bench saw depends on its purpose. If you are going to be using the saw for basic woodwork at home then a small bench saw is ideal. The small one is light, east to transport and small in size. The small size means you can place it wherever you decide to. If you are buying it for professional use in a shop or factory then you need to consider factors like the work you intend to use it for, budget, etc.

2. Make sure it has all the accessories you will need. There are a number of jigs that can be added to the saw to get different cuts and functions. Also buy a couple of spare blades and a blade guard. Some come with dust collection attachments as well.

3. Make sure the safety features work. Most bench and table saws now come with a flesh censor. The flesh sensor shuts off and retracts the saw the moment it comes into contact with skin. You can test this feature with a frank or salami log. The feature is great and saves your fingers but the saw becomes inoperable after that. You will need to call in a technician to replace the saw arm before you can use it again.

4. Take all the time you need before you decide. Ask around and compare prices and features of different brands. Read reviews in magazines or online. One trick is to use the malls and shops to do the research and look at the benches, then use the internet to buy it at discounted prices.

Once you purchase your table saw, set it up in and make sure that children cannot get to it. The blade is sharp and dangerous even when not in use. Retract the blade and cover it when not in use. If possible unplug it from the wall socket when not in use. When using the saw make sure you are using all the prescribed protection. This includes eye, body and hand protection. Do not operate when under the medication or under the influence of alcohol. That's a recipe for disaster. Hope you enjoy your table saw!
