You love someone because you both loved rock and roll, cycling, and strawberry. You love someone because is what you needed at that time and in the right way.

Easy Bratwurst Recipes

My first experience with bratwurst came at the tender age of eleven. I had just moved to Wisconsin from Illinois, where kielbasa was the main sausage in my life. Polish sausage reigned supreme, and I was a proud pole living in a suburb of Chicago.

As we were driving into our new hometown, I noticed signs for "brats" at the local supermarkets. I was dumbfounded, and a little scared. Although a pretty good kid, I tended to be a little bit mischievous from time to time. Was this the reason for moving up north? I was preparing for the worse. Imagine my relief, when we went grocery shopping that first day and I saw that "brats" was short for bratwurst.

My first bratwurst was grilled and on a bun. That's all it took to supplant polish sausage as my new number one. Luckily I'm part German, so there is no Polish guilt. I now try to incorporate brats into meals that call for other sausages. Here are a few easy recipes you may enjoy:

Bratwurst Bake

What you need:
1 package Johnsonville brats (5-6 brats)
28 oz jar spaghetti sauce
14.5 oz can green beans, drained
2 (4 oz) cans mushrooms, sliced and drained
8 oz mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/4 c Parmesan cheese, grated

What you do:
Cut brats into bite-sized pieces. Cook in skillet until juices run clear; drain on paper towels. Mix brats, mushrooms, beans and spaghetti sauce in a bowl. Grease a 9 x 9 inch pan with non-stick cooking spray. Pour mixture into pan. Sprinkle on Parmesan cheese. Top off casserole with Mozzarella cheese. Bake in a 350 degree preheated oven for 35-45 minutes, uncovered. Cheese should be melted but not browned. Meal best served over noodles.

Beer Soaked Bratwurst

What you need:
1 lb of bratwurst
2 12 oz cans of beer
1 medium onion, chopped
16 oz jar sauerkraut with caraway seeds, drained
1 green pepper, chopped
2 T butter

What you do:
Layer bratwurst on bottom of 9 x 13 x 2 inch baking pan. Pour beer over bratwurst and cover with foil. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. In medium skillet, add butter, onion and green pepper. Cook on med heat until lightly browned. Add sauerkraut, mix and continue heating for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Wrap sauerkraut mixture in aluminum foil and set aside. Add brats and beer to large skillet or saucepan; cover and simmer for 15 minutes.

On gas grill:
Set front and back burners to med heat and leave the middle off. Set foil covered kraut off to the side, away from direct heat. Place brats in middle of grill and cover. Cook brats for 10 -12 minutes, making sure browned on each side and watching for flare-ups.

On charcoal grill:
Cook over mostly ashen coals for 10 -15 minutes, turning often and preventing flare-ups. Cook kraut away from flame. Serve brats on buns with kraut mixture on top and spicy brown mustard, or your choice of condiments.

Hurricane Recipes Requiring No Power

If you live in a hurricane prone area that is known for hurricane strikes on the shoreline then perhaps you are tired of evacuating every single time a storm looks like it might come your way. Perhaps if you are a many miles inland you have decided that during the next large Atlantic tropical hurricane of a high magnitude or category that you are going to stay put and batten down the hatches.

If you decide to stay during the mandatory evacuation of the major catastrophic and large category hurricane it is not advised, however if you do you will need to stock up with food and water. You will lead one gallon a day of drinking water for yourself and each pet that you have, as well as extra water for splash bathing and cleaning. Easy Indiana Catfish Recipe

I was talking with my brother yesterday and was reminded of an easy catfish recipe that I will give you below. We were invited to a farm not far from us for a cook out and we saw three boys heading into the woods with fishing rods. We asked our host where they were going and he said we should follow in the general direction they went. There would be large pond about a 1/4 mile in.

David and I decided to check it out. Sure enough, after about 15 minutes of walking we came to pond and a good sized one at that. It was about 100 yards across and 300 yards long and surprisingly had very little moss. The boys had a can of worms they had dug up and were having a good time catching bluegill.

It was very similar to the pond where my brother and I learned how to fish from my father. I spent my entire childhood in one location, Plainfield, Indiana and there were many ponds to choose from but that first one was always my favorite. You could always catch catfish, bluegill and the occasional bass.

When we would get home mom would take the fish, making a big deal out how good we were for providing dinner. These dinners were always special and here is one of my favorite recipes from those times.

Ingredients

4 catfish fillets
1/3 milk
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 large egg
1/2 cup flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon pepper
vegetable oil

Combine cornmeal, flour, salt and black pepper to taste.

Combine the milk and egg in a separate bowl.

Heat a 1/2 inch of vegetable oil in a skillet. Oil should be about 350 degrees.

Dip catfish in egg and cover with cornmeal, flour mixture.

Place fillets in skillet and cook about 5 minutes on each side or until fish turns a golden brown color.

Remove and drain on paper towels.

A couple of years back, I had no experience in baking cakes or cooking at all! Since I was living with my parents - I had nothing to worry about. It all changed when I was accepted to the university. There were no parents to help me out!

In the first couple of months I started loosing weight pretty fast - that's because I was simply too lazy to cook something (I was studying IT, and we all know how lazy those "computer geeks" can be).

One "happy" day my girlfriend ask me to visit her at her parents house. They have this thing when one day in a year they invite some guests, and all of the guests have to bring something they made. I was told by my girlfriend that I should bring a cake, because no one had brought one before.

At first, I though I would buy something from the catering store nearby, but I changed my mind when I saw how expensive those cakes were. I thought to myself - it can't be that hard! So I started searching for homemade cake recipes. I found one pretty easy orange cake recipe and decided to give it a try.

I made the batter exactly as it was written in the recipe. Got it into the cake tin and put it into oven. However, since I've been working on one of my projects while it was baking, I totally forgot about the cake! After I remembered about it, I run to the kitchen and saw smokes all over the place. It was so embarrassing to throw it out with two girls watching how I failed with my cake (we shared the same kitchen in the dorm) so that I thought I would never make anything on my own again.

Thanks to my girlfriend, I didn't give up. I found another source of easy cake recipes and decided to make a chocolate cake. This time I didn't forget about it, and it turned out to be really tasty. My girlfriends parents really loved it!

Since then, I started baking cakes for my friends at least once a week. Right now, I feel like I have tons of experience, so I will share some tips to help you if you're a beginner.

To keep the filling in place, make sure to sprinkle layers with confectioners sugar People don't like it when cake sticks to the serving platter - once again, you can use confectioners sugar to dust the platter. To keep cake fresh longer, put a fresh apple cut in half in the box of the cake. To prevent cake from crumbling while frosting - freeze the layers in the cake pans for about one hour. Don't ever try to take the cake out of the pan if it's still hot! You can use dental floss to cut the cake into even slices If you're baking fruit cake - spray cake tin with vegetable oil

The 11 amp Sawzall from Milwaukee is durable and super light -- weighing in at just 7 pounds, for the best power-to-weight ratio in its class. Webkinz Holiday Recipes

Do you plan on doing something special for your Webkinz this holiday season? I did. I got my kids to sit around the computer with me one morning and told them that their Webkinz were going to have a big Christmas Eve Party.

Next I got a Christmas tree and gathered all of their Webkinz together into one room with plans of making them some holiday food. But to my surprise there really aren't any Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa Webkinz Recipes. I was surprised because on Halloween, I treated my Webkinz to Halloweenog. I think for Christmas, I'm going to have to improvise.

Maybe I could start with something like Hot Cocoa. That's a festive holiday drink. But since I was set on making Webkinz Recipes maybe there was a Cocoa like recipe that I could try. I took a quick look at a list of recipes that I've been meaning to try and saw Hot Marshmallow. It's made with Marshmallows, Milk and a Chocolate Bar in the blender. Sounds like fancy hot cocoa to me. We went to the W. Shop and bought 5 Marshmallows, 5 Milks and 5 Chocolate Bars so we could make Hot Marshmallow for each Webkinz.

After my daughter clicked the blend button we saw that Hot Marshmallow looked more like a big meatloaf than a festive holiday drink. But everyone was happy when we fed it to the Webkinz and they said it was Mmmmm to to max!

Dead set on serving hot chocolaty drink, I tried again. Ah-ha, I found a recipe for Trippple Hot Chocolate. With three P's it's got to be good. So we loaded the blender with Chocolate Milk, Hot Cocoa and a Chocolate Bar. Yes, Trippple Hot Chocolate was perfect.

Now that the Webkinz had a hot drink, it was time for a hot meal. Zazzeloop Soup is pretty festive looking with it's little Christmas trees on top so we ran out to the W. Shop again to buy some Pizza, Lollipops and Tomato Soup. Zazzeloop Soup is a stove/grill/cauldron recipe but we decided to use the stove.

Voila, Zazzeloop Soup! Now we were on a roll. Most of the Webkinz' Hunger Meters were way up in the 90s. I think I even saw a few of them loosen their belts. Well, not really but I told the kids that anyway.

After watching a little Chef Gazpacho on the flat screen we decided the party was over. We had a real holiday get together with the kids' Grandma in a few hours so it was time to start getting ready. We walked each of the Webkinz back to their rooms and put them to bed. Our little holiday party made the Webkinz Happy, Healthy and maxed out their Hunger Meters. And I think that if my kids had Happy Meters, they would have been maxed out too.
